The M100-series is the oldest metro train type operating in the Helsinki Metro system. It was designed in conjunction with the building of the system. The trains are of Finnish origin and have proven to be very reliable and durable in use. The oldest units from the M100-series have been built in 1977 and the newest are from 1984. All but the three oldest units (six cars) have been refurbished and overhauled between 2004 and 2009, and the current plan is to continue the operation of the M100 to the 2030's.
